2008

The Oklahoma Historical Preservation Office has placed the Fairchild Wine Vault on its 'endangered structures' list. It is mistakenly listed as "Abandoned".

1987

The land is purchased from Lucyl Shirk by the current owners.

1974

The Fairchild Wine Vault is placed on the National Register of Historic Places.

1973

The Wine Vault is restored and used for regular meetings of the "Oklahoma Wine and Rasslin' Society".

1972

The remnants of the largest Winery in Oklahoma Territory are located by former Okc Mayor George Shirk in a rubbish dump.

1907

The Fairchild Winery is driven out of business by the adoption of prohibition at statehood. The land is sold.

1900

The Winery's annual production of wine reaches 5500 Gallons.
Prominent customers include the first Catholic Dioscese in Okc.

1898

Fairchild distributes Wine to many businesses downtown, including several restaraunts of his own partnered with M.S. Warner.

1893

The Fairchild Wine Vault is constucted, making it the oldest extant structure in Oklahoma City.

1891

The Fairchild Winery is established by Edward B. Fairchild, an experienced winemaker from the Finger Lakes region of NY.

2008 Update: No Vacancy


August, 23, 2008: We now have sourdough starters made from the yeast from our first batch of wine.


July 4, 2008: Wine is again fermenting in the place where it all started 120 Years ago, using many similar methods.


The great ice storm of 2008 took the tops out of many trees here, like everywhere else, but caused no damage to the vault itself. We'd like to extend our special thanks to the people who have and are still assisting us in the cleanup effort.
